Safflower (or American Saffron) is a powerful spice high in antioxidants. It has been linked to health benefits, such as improved mood as well as reduced PMS symptoms and enhanced weight loss. Best of all, it's generally safe for most people and easy to add to your diet. Safflower seed oil is used for preventing heart disease, including “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis) and stroke.
Make a tea by adding 1 heaping teaspoon of saffron to 2 cups of boiling water. Allow to steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain, serve, and enjoy. Make fresh daily.
Precautions: Do not take safflower flower during pregnancy. It is LIKELY UNSAFE. It can bring on menstrual periods, make the uterus contract, and cause miscarriages. There isn't much information about the safety of using safflower seed oil or flower during breast-feeding.
