Blue Cohosh

$3.20
Size:
1 oz

Native to the woodlands of eastern North America, blue cohosh is named after its bright blue berries which ripen in the fall. Although the berries are poisonous, blue cohosh root has traditionally been utilized for its healthful properties. Blue cohosh can be tinctured, used in topical applications, or steeped as blue cohosh tea. The word cohosh is from Algonquian and means rough, which refers to the root. The stem is bluish, which is where the rest of the name comes from. Blue cohosh is also referred to as papoose root.

Blue cohosh is used for stimulating the uterus and starting labor; helping to start menstruation, stopping muscle spasms; as a laxative; treating sore throats, inflammation of female reproductive organs including pelvic inflammatory disease and endometriosis.
